Ivory Coast Update

Bloomberg News is reporting that Liberia and Ghana are preparing for an influx of refugees. To understand how we got here read the Guardian’s “Ivory Coast’s descent into madness“. Karnplay Town and Saclepea look like the main catchment points in Nimba County, Liberia. MSF has been there for quite some time handling Liberian refugees returning from Ivory Coast.

The IRC is also in Nimba and the World Food Programme recently airlifted high energy biscuits into Saclepea. Open Street Map has woefully little regional data while Google Maps cuts Karnplay Town in half. Perhaps Nicolas Chavent is already on his way to the region from Haiti. Nothing yet on the Logistics Cluster site.

If you are already there or on your way please don’t hesitate to post general operational info (transportation,¬†accommodation, communication, etc.) in the comments section.

Update: The Humanitarian OSM team (@hotosm) is looking for people to help map their Bing and SpotImage imagery: http://bit.ly/ehXU9u

Update: Subsaharska‘s (@hudin) ‘All goes badly in Cote d’Ivoire‘ contains a nice amount of information about past events, who to follow, etc.
