Here is a very creative way to raise some money. The MSF warehouse in Canada has decided to sell field support staff online. You can now buy a logistician and send him/her off on a trip to a guaranteed austere environment. Here is what you get:

Logisticians make sure that a medical project has a well-functioning infrastructure and everyone has what they need to do their work. As hands-on problem solvers, logisticians will process orders, purchase supplies on the local market, obtain permits, supervise local staff and take care of transport, safety and security. In a single day they may search for, negotiate a price on and obtain needed materials, then build a small shelter, fix a car that has broken down and set up a power supply.

Logisticians play a key role in every MSF project, communicating extensively with local staff, local authorities and other organizations. Placing a logistician in the field is a critical and necessary step to make sure a project can get up and running.

A 6-month mission for a logistician includes costs for transportation, training, travel documents and vaccines, and lodging.

Send a logistician for 6 months now – or share the cost – help our projects have all the supplies and infrastructure needed to provide critical medical care to those in need.

They only get six months in the field for your $16,470 but not too many people want to stay ‘Living In Emergency‘ much longer than that.

I think this is a great way to raise funds although they might want to make it a little more social and throw in actual Log profiles so their friends can bid on them. By the way, you can also buy the the best car ever built – a Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ8 ($30,000), a diesel generator ($1,200) or even a doctor but your $3,780 will only get you six weeks. I’d suggest going for the logistician as doctors are only usally good for six weeks and they require a lot more maintenance.

As the folks up at the MSF-Canada warehouse so delicately put it:

You choose. MSF delivers.
