‘USAID’s Private Air Force for Afghanistan’

by Jon Thompson on April 18, 2009

WIRED’s Danger Room has an interesting article about a plan by USAID to roll out it’s own air service. Apparently, they’ll be putting out a tender with the requirement that the contractor provide:

“..between 10 and 14 fixed-wing and rotary aircraft to support development teams in Afghanistan. The contractor will be required to provide a full spectrum of services: aircraft and crews, maintenance services and fuel, passenger booking and insurance. The aircraft will be based initially in Kabul…”

With all the air services in operation there must be a serious need for additional support. Wait, isn’t Air Serv still in operation out there? I believe UNHAS still is. Let me check…
