‘US drones sighted over kidnappers’ lair’

by Jon Thompson on January 22, 2009

This news headline comes from the Filipino news site Inquirer.net.  According to the article residents in the city of Jolo, in the southern Philippines, have spotted drones patrolling the skies over the location where three ICRC staff were abducted on January 15th.  The ICRC is appealing for the release of their staff.  The three come from Switzerland, Italy and the Philippines.  Some accounts put the hostages in the town of Indanan located in the center of Jolo Island.  According to the story the  presence of the drones indicates the involvement of the US or other foreign militaries.  Apparently, this is not first time drones have been used in operations in the southern Philippines. Let’s hope for their safe release.
